The Arts Society of Bishops Stortford will be meeting at South Mill Arts tomorrow with coffee from 10am. The lecture will then follow at 10.40am by author, campaigner, journalist and social historian, Tessa Boase.

Tessa’s lecture is “The Housekeeper’s Tale: The women who really ran the English Country House”. As the most senior of the upper servants, the house keeper typically carried a family’s secrets with her to the grave. Using old letters, secret diaries etc., Tessa has produced a series of fascinating stories from 19th and 20th century domestic service at some of our most prominent households.
