COVID-19, us and you

Following the latest Government guidelines, all shows, events and films at South Mill Arts have been cancelled for December. We hope to re-open again for permitted activities in January.

When we are able to re-open again, the following government guidelines will apply to your visit:

Unfortunately, the rule of 6 applies and more than one household/support bubble cannot meet or socialise in any indoor setting (this includes any public space inside South Mill Arts), so if this affects you or your booking, please contact us at and we will do everything we can to accommodate you.

As part of our reopening strategy we have introduced several new measures to make sure that you visit is as safe as it can be.  We hope that the information below will answer any questions you may have.  Please note that we are working to the government guidelines and some of the details below may change at short notice due to amendments to these guidelines so please do check regularly for updates.  If you have any additional questions a member of our Front of House team will be more than happy to walk you through any concerns or queries you may have.

This is brand new territory for us all so please have patience with our team and with each other as we keep each other safe. Communication is key in these changeable times so if you have an idea on how we can improve the measures we have in place, please let one of our team know.


Under government guidelines, we ask that all of our visitors wear facemasks before they enter the building, and throughout your visit (this includes whilst watching a screening or performance).  Facemasks can be removed to eat or drink, but must be put back on once you have finished eating and drinking.

Children under the age of 11 are not required to wear a facemask.  For more information on those who are exempt from wearing a facemask and the guidelines, please see the government website.


We are requesting that tickets for all events are booked in advance using our online system, however, for queries or if you have a booking that requires additional assistance from us e.g. booking a wheelchair accessible space or with a carer etc, then please contact our box office at   Your tickets will be emailed to you and can either be printed at home or presented electronically on a phone or tablet.  Please note we are not printing or posting tickets at present.

All customers should leave suitable contact details for all bookings to enable South Mill Arts to provide details for track and trace.


We are able to serve alcohol to our ticket holders 30 minutes before and after the performance or screening.  Alcohol can be ordered at the bar to be consumed when seated in the auditorium or area where the screening/performance is taking place.


We have redesigned our seating plan to support social distancing so please ensure you sit in your allocated seats and enter/exit through the designated doors – our ushers will be on hand to assist you.

Our seating layout has been designed to allow people to book in groups with a fixed price on all seats. It is up to individual customers to ensure they book in the appropriate household/bubble groups. If you wish to discuss different seating arrangements please email the Box Office at, however, please note that we cannot move seating groups to different areas of the auditorium, other than to accommodate accessible seating for our disabled customers, and we may not be able to accommodate all requests due to space and social distancing restrictions.


Whilst we have always prided ourselves on the cleanliness of our venue we have increased our cleaning in heavy traffic and high contact areas. All areas will be cleaned after each use including auditorium seats.  Some areas may have limited accessibility at times to allow us to undertake cleaning as required.

Hand sanitiser units are situated throughout the building for customer use and we expect our customers to wash their hands after using the toilets or after any action that could lead to contamination of surfaces.

Please note that our staff will be issued PPE and some may choose to wear facemasks. For those individuals that rely upon lip reading or find their hearing impaired by masks, please make our staff aware and they will be happy to accommodate you in one of our areas protected by a screen to ensure your protection and that of our staff.

Your Visit

Please do not attend the venue if you are experiencing symptoms of Covid-19, have been advised to self-isolate or believe you have been in contact with someone who may have Covid-19. If you are experiencing symptoms or have been told to isolate, please let the box office team know as soon as possible.

Please ensure you have your tickets pre-printed or in electronic form as we will not be printing tickets at the box office.

Our toilets are being operated as a one in/one out system with no exceptions, please do not use any other facilities other than those designated for customer use. Please ensure you wash your hands after using the facilities and use the hand sanitiser provided.

We would ask that all of our visitors wear face masks in all of the public areas during their visit.

Our bar will be operating both a sit in and takeaway options, please follow the signs of where to queue and the instructions of our bar staff. Please note, drinks that are to be taken into the auditorium will be sold in disposable cups and that we are unable to accept reusable cups at this time.  To help reduce the risk of the spread of infection we are asking all of our patrons to use contactless payment methods for purchases wherever possible.

When leaving the auditorium, please take all your rubbish with you and place it in the bins provided, please do not leave any litter in the auditorium.
