The Arts Society of Bishops Stortford will be meeting at South Mill Arts on Tuesday July 9th. The lecture will then follow at 10.40am by writer and lecturer, Elizabeth Gowing.

Elizabeth’s lecture is “Edith Durham’s bold Edwardian collection of beautiful Balkan things”. Edith Durham’s travels in the first decades of the twentieth century took her across unexplored Accursed Mountains between Kosovo, Montenegro and Albania. She recorded the people she met, the landscapes she visited and the objects she collected in watercolours and seven published books. She was elected a Fellow of the Royal Anthropological Institute and was the first women to become Vice President.
