A launch party at Stortford museum opened a new exhibit which is all the work of Young Curator, Stefan Wlodarczyk. Stefan interviewed members of the local Polish community and invited them to bring in an object which reminds them of their home town.
Stefan explained “The Young Curators Programme has given me an insight into artefact care and the stories that can be told through exhibiting objects. Most importantly, it motivated me to volunteer here at the museum where I could apply the skills I learned. “
“I noticed that the museum collection did not reflect the more recent history of Bishop’s Stortford and its newer, international residents, so I created this exhibit and an archive on the local Polish community.”
“Working on this has given me experience in gathering oral histories and interpreting objects and has helped the museum build up it’s contemporary archive.”
Visit the first floor museum to see the exhibit and read the interviews.
