New addition to the Museum Display!

Come and visit the second floor of the Museum to see our new Victorian blown glass pharmacy display carboy. This item used to be displayed in the window of Speechley and Milbank chemist, 14 North Street, Bishop’s Stortford.

Large-scale production of the glass carboys used to advertise pharmacy, began with improvements of the glass-making process in the 1700s. It is one of pharmacy’s most iconic objects used in shop windows. Filled with coloured water mimicking chemical substances in solution, they advertised the trade that went on inside.

Big Thank you to K2 for producing the amazing acrylic casing unit for this object! K2 | acrylic fabrication specialists
